Sonography, or Digital Ultrasound Imaging, utilizes high-frequency sound waves to create pictures from inside of the body. The reflected echoes from these sound waves are recorded and then used to create a real-time visual image. Obstetric Ultrasound is the specialized use of sound waves to visualize and diagnose the status of a pregnant woman and her baby. Since ultrasound images are produced in real-time, they can show the movement of tissues and organs, as well as the flow of blood through the blood vessels. Ultrasounds are a useful tool that allows us to examine many of the body’s internal organs in real-time, including; the heart and blood vessels, the bladder, ovaries, breasts, uterus, liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and much more.

Commonly known as a bone density scan or as bone densitometry, a Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scan is a specialized kind of X-ray-based technology designed specifically to detect and measure bone loss. This test can be used to detect early osteoporosis (a disease that leads to thinner bones with a higher risk of fracture) as well as monitor the progression and treatment of this bone disease.

A biopsy is a type of medical procedure that removes cells or tissues for examination beneath a microscope. Tissue samples are usually collected with a small needle or a biopsy device and may require a small incision to be made in the skin. Using imaging guidance, such as with an ultrasound or a CT, we can help target the biopsy location and lead to a more precise procedure. Local anesthesia is commonly used for these procedures, and the entire process is usually pain-free, although some patients may experience mild discomfort.
